“And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.”
This photo shows the collapse of Torrero Alvaro Munera, as he realized in the middle of the his last fight… the injustice to the animal. From that day forward he became an opponent of bullfights.

The story of me (reading The Hunger Games)
(Source: icanread)
May the odds be ever in your favour
For months I have been reading very excited articles in magazines about the movie that will be coming out next month, based on the best selling book The Hunger Games. I read a few reviews about the books too, also very excited.
So with all that excitement going around, last thursday, to give myself a boost after a hard day/week/month at work, I bought The Hunger Games. Just the first book of the trilogy, to give it a try.
I was hooked from the start. The characters are perfectly described, giving you the impression that they are as real as you are, that they are next to you, they’re your friends.
The whole world these characters live in, Panem, ruled by the dictatorial Capitol has a History, also perfectly thought out and constructed in words. You feel from the beginning that there is an oppressive power ruling over the Districts (Katniss, the heroin of the story and narrator lives in number 12), and comprehend the frustrations that led to the events that initiated the brutal yearly televised event, the Hunger Games. You feel Katniss’s pain when she volunteers as Tribute instead of her sister, you understand the feeling of debt she has towards Peeta (the boy Tribute from District 12, who competes along side Katniss) for things that happened so long ago in the past.
It might be described as a ‘young adult’ novel, but it is nothing of the sort. This is a deeply thought out book, which not only creates a whole new world as only the best authors can do, but constructs characters that everyone will be able to relate to, whatever the age or gender.
What struck me the most about the book were a few themes…
The sense of despair in the people struggling to keep alive in District 12.
Capitol’s oppressive power over the Districts, highlighted by the violence of the Games.
Katniss’s love for her family and desire/need to protect them and keep them alive.
Her sense of debt towards Peeta which never seemed to have an end.
Peeta’s determination in still being himself after the games ended.
Katniss’s struggle with herself over her feelings for Peeta/Gale.
Rue (she made a lasting impression on me).
The feeling of revenge and rebellion.
Overall, believe me, it is a wonderful book, and it should be read by anyone who appreciates an addictive read. It is most definitely ‘unputdownable’ (don’t know if this is even a word, but I read it in a book review a few months back).
With quite a lot of books, I’m one of those girls who falls asleep after a few pages and has to take a break. With this one however, I read for hours on end. I started reading Friday for an hour on my way to work. Continued on Sunday and by Tuesday night I was finished.
As soon as I finished the book, though, I thought: Should I start reading it again?!
I didn’t. Instead, to prepare, I read brief descriptions of the next two books and today I went to buy them.
If I ever recommend anything, to anyone, it has to be this book. It is thought provoking, thrilling and moving all rolled into one.
Trust me, you will love it.
Cute! Want to print this and put it on my wall :)

Last Sunday I woke up to the very sad news that one of my childhood idols had passed away, and though I didn’t cry about it I did find myself mourning for a person I have always admired but never actually came even remotely close to meeting.
Her songs were there while I was growing up, meant the world to me when I needed something to hold on to, made me laugh and cry. I am still upset that I didn’t get to see her live when she played in Portugal because I lived in a different city!
Step by Step (from The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack) and When You Believe (from The Prince of Egypt) are songs that still make me feel better and put a smile on my face, more than a decade after they have been released.
When I was younger, I had the hope I would one day make it as a singer, so I used to belt out Whitney’s songs in my room (so no one could hear me and/or make fun of me).
She was most definitely an incredible talent, and a beautiful woman. Her voice still gives me the chills. And she was one of my idols.
The day the news broke that she had passed I saw many joke-y comments on Facebook about her death and I keep seeing speculative things on celebrity “news” websites about all that led up to her death.
Just my opinion, but I find this to be in such bad taste! A person has died. Yes she publicly struggled with some nasty demons, but she was a human being with a young daughter and a family. People need to respect this, to actually let her Rest in Peace.
So to Whitney: RIP, I hope you finally find peace.

Note to self: remember this everyday.

RIP Society of the Day: I can’t decide who I dislike more: The “who is Paul McCartney” kids or the “I would let Chris Brown beat me” girls.
I say we toss them all into a monster truck arena and let Bigfoot sort them out.

Ugh, I can’t even.
